mmic™ Commercial Mobile Medical Unit Platform

mmic™ has a proprietary mobile medical unit platform based on a custom designed and constructed 53’ semi-trailer that is capable of expanding to nearly 1000 Ft².  This platform that has been developed and enhanced over 25 years is the basis of our two flagship products.  These are the Mobile Surgical and Mobile Sterilization Units (MSU™ & MSPS™) that are integrated with customized HVAC to provide US code compliant protected environments.  These units are designed per Facilities Guidelines Institute (FGI) – Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Hospitals and meet the appropriate life safety and governmental guidelines specified therein.  These products have been deployed at many private and governmental hospitals throughout the United States.  They have received Joint Commission certification as part of these deployments and they also meet CMS requirements.

Infectious Disease – Mobile Testing Unit (ID- MTU)  

The ID-MTU™ is based on mmic’s™ commercial Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) platform.  The unit provides mobile testing capacity for infectious diseases while protecting healthcare personnel.  This is done by providing physical as well as environmental systems that separate the patients of unknown infection status from pre-tested non-infected healthcare workers.  Two separate entry/exit points are used and once on board the clean healthcare personnel area is segregated and maintained as a positive pressure environment to the patient test area to eliminate exposure to infected patients.  This unit could accept screened patients from the ID-RRU as described above or be used stand alone.


Test Protocol – Once a test patient enters the “Test Patient Vestibule” (Airlock) there is a two-way communication (video and audio) with the healthcare personnel in the clean area.  Upon establishing communications and confirming a valid test request from appropriate healthcare personnel, the test patient would be allowed to enter the Patient Test Area via the remotely controlled access (electronically locked) door.  The test patient would be directed to one of the eight “Patient Test Rooms” and directed via two-way communications to take a sample.  Once complete the patient would place the test specimen in the “Test Specimen Pass Thru” for collection by healthcare personnel once they have exited the unit.

Soiled Material Handling – The Patient Test Area would be disinfected periodically.  Soiled material would be bagged, marked and placed in the “Soiled Handling Area” for collection and appropriate subsequent disposal (incineration).  There is also a clean work area and a pass through to the soiled holding area for any collection material in question.

It is estimated that 25 – 30 patients per hour could be tested with this unit with appropriate supplies and personnel

Infectious Disease – Mobile Isolation Unit (ID- MIU)

The ID-MIU™ is based on mmic’s™ commercial Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) platform.  The unit is a mobile isolation ward for patients who have contracted the disease and whose condition has become severe enough to require hospitalization.  It allows hospitals to care for acute cases of SARS-CoV-2 without bringing them into the same facility as non-infected patients and healthcare personnel.   It provides a physically and environmentally separate area for healthcare personnel to observe the patients and don Personnel Protective Equipment when direct attendance is necessary.  This area is kept under positive pressure to the isolation area to eliminate any infiltration of air from the patient area.  The unit provides an access ramp for ambulatory patients and a vestibule (airlock) to keep the isolation area negative pressure.

From  testing with the ID-MTU to post infection care of acute cases with the ID-MIU, mmic’s™ Infectious Disease Product provides mobile, rapidly deploy-able assets that can be used to contain the spread of SARS-CoV-2 based infections.  These units are designed to protect healthcare workers while providing patients with effective care.  Their mobility is not limited to ground, they are commercial MMU platforms designed and certified to be air transportable.  This allows for rapid relocation of assets to outbreak hot spots as needed.
